New Works Dance:
All Over The Map 2026
Title of piece:
I AM THE IBALOI WANDERER
Performed on August 14th & 16th, 2026
This piece is about the story of the Ibaloi Wander and his search for belonging. As he searches, he is invited by different cultures through dance and movement. He becomes a guest. The movement becomes the learned language he uses to express.
The routine is a love letter to street dance. It’s about being a guest. Honouring the cultures that have given him so much: belonging through community, healing and purpose through movement and music.
His own cultural heritage as an Igorot is not seen or heard. It is only represented through his being. He has lost a lot of his own cultural language, but through his wandering, he comes across street dance. That is now the language he uses. And it is only through his inner being that he carries his Igorot heritage. It is not seen or visible. All you see is that he is Southeast Asian and Filipino. He wears a Barong Tagalog (The dress shirt made out of pineapple leaf fibre) and a bamboo straw hat.
He is far from his homeland. But he is not lost. He has found community, purpose and healing. He has found street dance.
